Play Based Learning

I have to admit that when I first set up this sensory bin, I didn’t intend for it to be a musical easter egg sensory bin. That was something my son discovered. When the plastic eggs are filled with rice they make a lovely sound when you shake them. Having an impromptu sing-along with our handmade shakers was a lot of fun.

Let’s not forget what a fantastic fine motor activity this is for young toddlers and preschoolers. I knew that my son would have fun filling and popping open the plastic easter eggs. Thankfully he was good at making sure the rice went back into the tub when he popped the eggs open, so I didn’t have a huge mess on my hands.

In the end, we didn’t use the baby chicks that much. Which is sad because they were the same colors as the plastic eggs and would have made for a great color matching activity. But hey, even without any color matching this sensory bin has been a huge hit with my two kids.
