How to make a Candy Cane Wreath Craft

Step 1. Cut out the center of the paper plate and paint it green.

Younger kids may need help cutting out the middle of the paper plate. Older kids should be able to practice their scissor skills without any problem.

While I used green paint, let your kids pick which color they want. You could end up with a whole rainbow if these beautiful wreaths on your classroom wall.

2. Start making your candy canes by winding the red and white pipe cleaners together.

This is fairly easy to do and is a wonderful way for children to strengthen their fine motor skills. If you’re doing this Christmas craft with young children, it may be easier to start in the middle and then work your way out to the edges.

3. Cut your twisted pipe cleaners into 2 inch lengths and then bend one end in a U shape.

The easiest way to bend the pipe cleaners is to hold one end between your thumb and index finger, then wrap it around your finger until it’s got a 90 degree bend in it.

4. Glue the candy canes onto your wreath.

One trick that I love to do is to mix the glue into the paint. That way we don’t have to wait for the paint to dry before attaching the candy canes onto the wreath.

5. Let your wreath dry.
