How to Make and Play the Christmas Roll and Graph Activity

1. Download and print the digital pdf

You can find the free pdf file below. Just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button.

2. Cut out and assemble the dice.

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the outline of the dice.

Fold along the lines, including the tabs that are on the outer edge.

Use use or sticky tape to assemble the dice into its cube shape. I also like to place a large foam block or scrunched up piece of paper into the middle of my paper dice. Although this isn’t essential. It does help to make the dice more sturdy while the kids are playing with it.

How to Play

1. Gather your materials

Make sure that you have one recording sheet for every child that is doing this fun math activity.

2. Roll the dice and observe which picture is facing upwards.

This is the picture that you will color in on the recording sheet.

3. Color in one of the rectangles above the matching picture on the graph.

Use a crayon, or even a sticker to mark one of the rectangles above the picture on the recording sheet.

4. Repeat rolling and coloring.

Some children will just keep rolling until they’ve got every space filled. I like to give each child ten throws to roll and graph out. That way they can see how one picture turns up more frequently than others. If they really enjoy this activity, then I let them do it again after other children have a turn.
