  5. Scissors
  6. Push pin (optional)

How to Make a DIY Snowflake Peg Board

1. Draw a snowflake onto your blue paper.

An easier way to make your snowflake is to find a free snowflake template and just print it out onto your paper instead.

2. Glue the snowflake to the top of your cardboard box.

I love saving old cereal or snack boxes for making DIY peg boards. It’s a great way to show your kids how we can reuse our recyclable materials to make something new.

3. Make holes throughout your snowflake.

I use a push pin to make the initial holes in my peg boards. Since it’s got a very sharp tip I find that the push pin makes the holes the most easily compared to any other tool I’ve tried.

I then use a small screwdriver to make the hole big enough to fit the stick of the cotton bud through.

4. Cut your cotton buds in half.

If you already have peg board pegs on hand, you can always use those instead. I wanted to use cotton buds because I didn’t have any white peg handy and q-tips are perfect for this activity.

5. Post the cotton buds into the holes to decorate your snowflake.

This play idea is a great way to get younger kids to work on their fine motor skills. They’ll need to develop hand-eye coordination, tripod grip and dexterity to complete the snowflake.
