  1. Green yarn
  2. Easter pom poms
  3. A large tub
  4. Tong, tweezers and other sensory bin tools
  5. Easter themed silicone mold (optional)

1. Line the plastic tub with yarn.

I like to take a whole ball of yarn and cut it straight down the middle. Then sprinkle it around the tub. I prefer to do smaller pieces of wool, because it otherwise turns into one large knot.

I also like to use yarn because it’s fairly cheap, has a lovely texture, and is easy to store and pack away for next year’s class.

2 Sprinkle the top of the wool with pom poms and other easter items.

I also had some small wooden bunnies from a previous project. If you have any other easter themed small items, like Easter mini erasers, feel free to add them into the sensory tub for your kids to explore.

Idea 1. Transferring.

Use tongs or tweezers to pick up the pom poms and place them into the sections of a silicone mold or ice cube tray.

I used an easter themed tray because I already had it on hand. However regular ice cube trays, bowls or bottles are all wonderful options.

2. Sort by size or colors.

My easter pom poms had a variety of different colors and sizes. I took this opportunity to talk to my kids about sorting the pom poms by their various characteristics. This was an easy way to get my kids to practice some early math skills while they played.

3. Make a picture.

Another reason why I love yarn based sensory bins, is that you can use the yarn to make pictures. Take a white sheet of paper, and use the wool and pom poms to create whatever you like. I made an easter egg as an example, but the kids had fun trying a whole lot of different ideas.
