  • Blue and yellow craft paper
  • Pasta (spiral or penne work wonderfully)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Yellow Paint
  • A ziplock bag

1. Make the pasta yellow.

This is completely optional, there is no need to color the pasta at all. I only did because I wanted it to be the same color as the yellow craft paper I was using.

Add the pasta and yellow paint into a ziplock bag. Shake the bag until all of the pasta is covered in yellow paint.

If you want to thin the paint out a bit, to make it easier to cover the pasta, then add a tablespoon of vinegar or water.
Tip the pasta out onto a plate and let it dry completely.

2. Draw and cut out a circle from the yellow craft paper.

Use a pair of scissors to cut the yellow paper into a circle. Using scissors is a great way to help young children strengthen their fine motor skills. However toddlers may still need help with this step.

3. Glue the yellow circle onto the middle of the blue craft paper.

Use whatever kind of glue you have on hand. However for this craft I recommend using liquid school glue, because it works better with the pasta than a typical glue stick does.

4. Glue the pasta around the edge of the yellow circle, making it look like suns rays.

I like to use this step to also practice counting with my kids. Where e count to 20 as we glue the pasta down.

When your finished, you can also use a permanent marker to draw a friendly face onto the middle of your sun.
