Materials Needed

  1. The Pirate Playdough Mats PDF
  2. A laminating machine
  3. Laminating sheets
  4. Yellow playdough

How to Setup the Pirate Playdough Mats

1. Download and print the free printable for kids found below.

2. Laminate each of the sheets.

This ensures that the playdough doesn’t stick to the mats and you can use them repeatedly.

How to Play

While I did this activity with yellow playdough, you can also use these mats with other manipulatives. Pretend coins, jewels or pirate themed mini erasers would be perfect for these playdough mats.

Step 1. Roll the yellow playdough into a snake, and line it up with the lines of the written number in the top right hand corner.

2. Roll the same number of balls, and place them in the ten frame in the bottom right hand corner.

For example, if you are using the number six playdough mat, you will need to roll six balls.

3. Additionally, you can roll another set of balls and place them into the treasure chest.

This helps the children to form, read and count numbers.
