Halloween Fine Motor Activities

Halloween is such a fun time of year, and also a great time to introduce a few spooky and creepy learning activities your kids.

Preschoolers will love wrapping and unwrapping this mummy fine motor activity. But if you’re teaching toddlers, then try using masking (or painters) tape instead of yarn. It’s not as difficult and the sticky side of the tape will double as a wonderful sensory activity.

Both toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy this Shape match spider. It’s an easy shape activity that will help this spider to climb up the waterspout again.

Materials Needed

  • A box with holes in the side or a laundry basket will do
  • String
  • Spiders or other Halloween props

How to Make a Spiderweb Activity for Halloween

Step 1: Take the string and thread it through the holes in the box.

You can change how difficult this activity is by how much string you use. The more string you use, the smaller your holes will end up being. You can also create multiple layers for your child to navigate with more string, and add another layer of obstacles for them.

Babies and younger toddlers may get frustrated with too much string and will need larger holes to see and pull the toys through.

Older children can weave their hands through smaller holes and therefore may find having more string more challenging.

Step 2: Place your spiders and Halloween toys on the bottom of the box.

You can also place some within the web. These toys will be easier for younger children to get and give them the confidence to persevere with more tricky ones at the bottom.

My kids tackled this activity with no problem, but putting the toys back into the spiderweb turned out to be a bigger challenge. If you find this activity to be too easy for your little ones, then try getting them to put the toys back into the box without getting anything tangled, it may be just the obstacle they need.
