How to Make a Sticky Wall Hedgehog Activity

1. Draw a hedgehog onto a spare whiteboard.
I like to draw the pictures for my sticky wall activities onto a whiteboard, and then put the whole board onto an easel. This is optional, and perfect for people who do not like the idea of sticking anything onto their walls.

2. Cover the whiteboard with contact paper, with the sticky side facing upwards.
If you don’t mind using painters tape to attach the contact paper to your wall. Then just draw the hedgehog straight onto your contact paper instead.

3. Collect your craft leaves, and place them onto the sticky contact paper.
I used craft leaves, but of course you can just collect a whole lot of real Fall leaves with your children instead. Use these to decorate your hedgehog and give it spines.

4. Enjoy playing.
What You’re Learning

Fine Motor Skills
Fine motor skills refer to the small muscles in the hand and fingers. Developing these skills are important in being able to write when the kids go to school, as well as being able to complete tasks independently. (For example, dressing and feeding themselves).
Picking up the leaves, and placing them onto the hedgehog picture are all going to help young kids develop:
- Pincer grip
- Hand-eye coordination
- Dexterity.

Science
This is a great opportunity to talk to your kids about hedgehogs. Discuss different things, such as:
- Where do hedgehogs live?
- What do hedgehogs eat?
- Why are they nocturnal?
