  1. Valentine’s patterns pdf file
  2. Printer and paper
  3. Laminating machine and laminating sheets (optional)
  4. Scissors

1. Download and print the free printable valentine cards.

To get your copy of the free download, just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button. You’ll receive 4 pages, each with 4 different patterns on them. As well as a page with pattern completion cards.

2. Laminate the pages.

This step is optional. If you are a teacher with a classroom full of kids, then I recommend laminating each of the free heart pattern cards and the pattern completion blocks. Laminating them will make them more durable. So not only will they last as the small groups switch out, you’ll also be able to save them for next year’s class.

3. Cut out each of the pattern completion cards.

Use a pair of scissors to separate the pattern completion cards into their individual squares. You can also cut out each pattern card into their four separate patterns. This is a better way to go if you want to help younger kids focus on just one pattern at a time. Especially if they are new to pattern recognition.

4. Observe the pattern before you.

There are AB, AAB ABB and ABA pattern blocks for you to explore. Talk to your children about what pattern they see and decide which color should come next.

5. Find the correct color pattern completion card.

6. Place the pattern completion card into the empty box at the end of the pattern card.

If you like, you can also attach velcro dots to the empty spot at the end of each pattern, as well as the back of each pattern completion block. That way the parts stick together once the kids have placed the completion block in the right place..

This is a great way to keep all of the pieces together if you want to turn this fun activity into a busy bag.
