  1. Black paper
  2. White Paper
  3. Craft paper in different colors
  4. Glue
  5. Scissors
  6. Circle shapes in different sizes (such as bowls and cups to trace around)
  7. Star stickers

1. Draw the circles

Use different sized circles to trace around, (such as bowls and cups) and make several circles on the black paper.

2. Cut out the circles and then use the black paper to trace the circles onto the white paper.

This isn’t essential. Drawing matching circles on the white paper just gives children a guide as to where their planets are going to be.

3. Tear the colored craft paper into thin strips.

You can cut the paper with scissors if you prefer (or have saved some from a previous project). I chose to tear the paper because this is a great fine motor activity, and I like the way that the  wavy lines look on the finished project.

4. Glue the strips of colored paper onto the white circles.

Don’t worry if the colored paper goes over the edge of the white paper, because you can trim these bits back once the glue has dried.

5. Paste on the black paper.

When all of the white circles are filled in, then take the black paper and glue it over the top. Make sure you match up the circles as best you can.

6. Finally, take your star stickers and decorate the black paper.

Stickers are a wonderful way to help you kids develop fine motor skills. If you don’t have any star stickers on hand. You can always draw some on using white pastels.
