- Brown paint
- Brown pipe cleaners
- Paintbrush
- Scissors

How to Make an Egg Carton Monkey
1. Cut out two sections of an egg carton.
Scissor practice is a fantastic way for kids to develop their fine motor skills. Younger kids may need help with this part of the project.
2. Paint the egg carton brown.
Use dark brown paint to cover the majority of the egg carton. Then use a lighter shade of brown over the two circles at the bottom of each section of the carton. These two lighter circles will become the belly and face of the monkey.
3. Make the face.
Once the paint is dry, use a black marker to draw a face onto one of the light brown circles.
You can also use googly eyes, white paint, or small white paper circles to make the monkeys’ eyes.
4. Pipe cleaner limbs
Cut two brown pipe cleaners into the arms, legs, tail and ears of the monkey.
I like to wrap the pipe cleaners around the end of a pen to make the ears. This is an easy way for young children to make the small circles needed for the monkey’s ears.
5. Putting it all together.
Use sticky tape to stick the limbs to the inside of the egg carton.
If you are doing this craft with older children, you can make small slits in the egg carton, and get them to thread the end of each of the limbs into the holes instead of using sticky tape.
