Materials Needed
- Sand
- Red Food coloring
- Kangaroo, koala and other Australian animal toy figurines
- Sticks, twigs and leaves.
- A large tub
How to Make an Australia Sensory Bin
Step 1: In a large bowl pour some sand, water and food coloring and mix together until the sand turns red.
2. Then leave the sand out in the sun to dry. The water will evaporate but the red color will remain.
This coloring isn’t permanent. It’s easy to wash the color out again once you’re finished and want to return the sand back to the sandbox. Just add water and the sand will return to normal again.
3. Poured the now dry, red sand into a large tub. Then decorate with the animal toys, sticks and leaves.
I used grevillea flowers and banksia seed pods to decorate my Australia sensory bin, because these are native to Australia. But of course, if you live somewhere else in the world, you can just use whatever parts of nature that you can find when you work around outside.
