Handprint Dot Art for Kids

Out of all the Australia art for kids I’ve tried, this Handprint Dot Art is my favorite. Inspired by Aboriginal dot art, these handprints look beautiful and create a wonderful keepsake for parents and grandparents.

How to Make Handprint Dot Art

Step 1. Cover your child’s hand with white paint, and press it onto the middle of the black paper.

When you are doing any handprint kids art ideas, try not to move the fingers around because it’ll smudge the paint and will affect the way the handprint outline looks.

2. Use a stick (or q-tip) and make colored dots around the handprint.

Sometimes the colored paint doesn’t show up very nicely on the black paper. If this happens you can use the trick my art teacher taught me, which works beautifully. All you need to do is mix a tiny bit of white in with the other colors. Not enough to turn red paint pink, but what it does is make the paint more opaque.

3. Leave the paint to dry.
