Materials Needed

  1. The Feed the Shark Free Printable
  2. An old shoebox
  3. Printer and printer paper
  4. Laminating machine and laminating sheets
  5. Hot glue gun
  6. Craft knife
  7. Dice

How to Make the Feed the Shark Math Game

1. Download and print the Feed the Shark Math Game.

The digital file is found below. Just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button to get your copy.

2. Laminate the shark and the fish.

I like to laminate the pieces of this shark game because it makes them more sturdy. But of course this is optional and you can choose what works for you.

3. Cut out the fish.

The free printable contains a set of fish both with, and without numbers on them. Use both, or whichever set works for your class.

4. Glue the shark onto the top of the shoebox

Use a hot glue gun to attach the shark page to the top of an old shoebox.

5. Use a craft knife to cut out the shark’s mouth

I find it easier to cut out sections using a craft knife, but if you don’t have one you can use a regular pair of scissors instead.

How to Play

1. Roll the dice and count the number of dots.

Use two dice because this is a fun way to help kids do a little bit of incidental addition.

2. Find the fish.

There are two different ways to play this step of this fun game:

  1. Find the fish with the matching number on it. This option is great for preschoolers and kindergarteners who are learning to read and match numbers and numerals.
  1. Alternatively, you can count out the same number of the un-numbered fish instead. This option is perfect for young kids who are learning how to count.

3. Post the fish through the shark’s mouth.

Feed the fish to the hungry shark and help develop fine motor skills at the same time.
