Valentines Fine Motor Activities

There are so many fun and easy ways for toddlers and preschoolers to develop fine motor skills. Here are some of my favorite Valentine’s play ideas for little fingers. All of them are suitable for toddlers and preschoolers and focus on learning through hands-on play.

Free Heart Lacing Cards – These heart lacing cards are completely free, and so easy to prepare. They’ll make a perfect addition to your valentines themed curriculums.

DIY Valentines Peg Board – Did you know that you can turn an old cereal box into a custom peg board? Let the kids decorate the heart any way they like as they practice pincer grip and hand-eye coordination.

Valentines Day Cutting Tray – Develop scissor skills with some fun Valentines-themed cutting materials. Don’t forget to save the pieces to make your own valentines collage with the kids.

Materials Needed

  1. Red, pink or purple foam sheets
  2. Scissors
  3. Pen
  4. A Large tub
  5. Water
  6. Red, pink pipe cleaners


How to Make a Fishing for Hearts Activity

Step 1: Draw and cut out heart shapes from the foam sheets.

Don’t forget to make the hearts hollow, so that the kids can hook them with their fishing rods.

2. Bend the bottom of the pipe cleaners into a hook shape, to make a fishing rod.

3. Fill a large tub with water, add the hearts.

4. Enjoy learning.
