How to Make Fall Lacing Cards

1. Download and print the Autumn themed lacing cards

You can find the free set of printable lacing cards below the step-by-step instructions. Just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button to get your copy.

Inside you’ll get 10 different pictures of fall leaves and icons which you can use for at-home practice or in your child care this Autumn season

2. Laminate each of the pages

Although this step is optional, I highly recommend it. Laminating the paper is a great way to make them more sturdy and reusable.

If you don’t have a laminating machine, you can also glue the paper onto thick card stock or an empty cereal box to make them a little more durable.

3. Cut out the pictures

Use a pair of scissors to cut around each of the different shapes. I like to leave a little space around each of the pictures because I don’t like the holes going through the actual image. But this isn’t necessary, you can make your own lacing cards how you like.

4. Make the holes

I used a single hole punch to make a series of holes around the edge of each lace card. You can make these as close or far apart as you like.

5. Enjoy playing

Grab your shoelaces or string and start lacing.

These DIY lacing cards are an easy sewing project for young kids who are still working on their fine motor skills (the muscles in their hands and fingers). They’ll practice skills like hand-eye coordination, pincer grip, manual dexterity and more. Developing all of these skills is essential to help kids to be independent and ready for school.
