How to Make Handprint Chicken Art for Kids

Step 1. Draw the handprint.

Place your child’s hand onto a piece of white paper, and trace around it using a pen or pencil. This will be the basis of your handprint chicken craft.

2. Cut out the handprint.

Cutting with scissors is a great idea if you want to help little kids strengthen their fine motor skills. Older children will be able to cut out their own hand, however younger kids might need help with this step.

3. Glue the handprint

Glue the child’s handprint to the center of the page. Leaving a little space at the bottom so you can draw feet, grass or spring flowers later.

Kids of all ages will have so much fun making this fun chicken craft. But the tracing and cutting may be too difficult for very little hands.

If this is the case, then I recommend using different ways to make this fun handprint art. Such as using white or brown paint to cover the child’s hand and then press the hand down onto the page instead.

It’s easy enough to use baby wipes to clean up the paint after they’ve made their little handprints.

4. Make baby chicks using yellow fingerprints.

Dip your finger or thumb into yellow paint and press it down on the bottom of the page. This will become a cute little chick once they’ve dried.

The little chicks are a great way to get in some finger painting (and sensory play) along with your cute handprint. If you feel so inclined, you can also make a handprint rooster to complete the chicken’s whole family.

If you don’t want to get out the paint, don’t worry. You can cut out the chick’s body from some yellow paper instead.

5. Draw the features

Once the paint is dry, you can add some chicken features to your cute craft. Use a sharpie or orange paint to make an orange beak. You can also draw wings and a chicken comb on top of the head.

Use black paint to make the eyes and legs, and green paint to make some grass at the bottom of your page.

Voila! You’ve just turned a simple handprint into an adorable little chicken and chick craft.
