  1. Printer and paper
  2. Free Christmas tree template
  3. Paint in different colors
  4. Paintbrush

1. Download and print the handprint tree template.

Print the template onto a piece of white cardstock paper.

You can find the link to the printable below. Just head to the end of this post and click the large blue button to get your copy.

2. Cover your hand with green paint.

Use a paintbrush to cover your child’s hand in green paint.

If you prefer, you can always trace around your child’s hand onto green paper instead. Then cut the hand prints out and use those for the tree branches.

3. Press the hand onto the paper.

The easiest way is to start by placing the middle finger (the top of the tree) just underneath the yellow star on the printable.

Next place one or two additional handprints, on each side of the tree. This will give a fan effect that looks like a Christmas tree shape.

Let the green paint dry before moving onto the next step. While this is optional, it does mean that the different colors won’t mix with the green paint and turn the ornaments brown.

4. Use fingerprints to make ornaments

Dip your fingertip into different colors of paint and dot them all over the christmas tree.

If you want these to look like Christmas lights, instead of ornaments, then you can start by drawing a black line around the handprint first. Once the black line is done, you can dot the colors along the line instead of randomly.

5. Let it dry

Once the paint is dry, your handprint christmas tree cards make a great gift to send home to parents or give to grandparents.
