How to Make the Hang Up The Socks Activity

Make the Washing Line

Step 1. Use the stanley knife to cut the top and front off of an old box.

2. Make the background.

I used regular green craft paper to make the sky, grass and bushes. You can also use acrylic paint to paint whatever kind of background that you like.

3. Poke a small hole in each side of the top of the box.

4. Thread a piece of string through each hole, and tie it.

I tied the string to a button on the outside of the box. I did this mostly because it makes this step easier to see in the photos. Tie the string to the box whichever way is the easiest for you.

However, I do not recommend just tying a regular knot because, as the kids play with this activity, there is a good chance it’ll pull through the hole and break the box.

Make the Socks

Step 1. Draw the sock outline onto your sheets of colored felt.

You can also draw the outline of other pieces of clothing. Instead of matching just socks, you can also turn this into a hang up the washing activity instead.

2. Cut out and decorate your socks.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the stripes to the socks. Make certain that you make two of each kind of sock, to make a matching pair.

How to Play Hang Up the Washing

Step 1. Find the two matching socks.

2. Use a wooden clothespin to hang the socks up on the washing line.
