Measuring Flowers Activity – Instructions
1. Download and print
You can find the digital file below, which contains 6 different measuring flowers sheets. Just head to the bottom of the post and get your copy by clicking the large blue button.
If you want to make these measuring sheets reusable you can always laminate them, or place them in a dry erase pocket and use a white board marker instead of a pen.
This way you can use the same sheets year after year with each new class.
2. Line up the ruler
Place the ruler along the middle of the flower and measure from the bottom of the stem to the top of the petals.
3. Write the number in the box
Read the number on the ruler and write it in the square below the flower.
Informal measuring
This activity can also be done with other manipulatives to do informal measuring with your kids. This is a great way for kids to also practice counting and one-to-one correspondence.
Instead of writing the number of centimeters or inches in the box, just write how many of the manipulatives you need to line up to be the same height as the flower.
For example, I tried this activity with pasta, buttons and paper clips. The second flower is three pasta’s tall, while the third is five buttons tall.
