Materials Needed

  1. Paper plates
  2. Paint
  3. Googly Eyes
  4. Paint Pens
  5. Paint brushes

For this project I used a black and white paint pen instead of a regular black marker. I prefer to use acrylic paint pens to draw over my craft projects because they’re paint based instead of ink based.

I find that when I use a sharpie to draw over paint it ends up ruining my sharpie rather quickly.

How to Make a Paper Plate Monster Craft

1. Paint your paper plate.

Use acrylic paint or tempera to paint your paper plate. Use whatever color you like for this step, this is a great way to let your kids express their own unique creativity.

2. Draw on a mouth.

Once the paint is dry, use your paint pen to draw on a mouth and teeth. You can create whatever kind of mouth you like, like a smile, frown or growl. What will you choose?

3. Glue on googly eyes

You can use however many eyes you like. I chose 5 eyes, in different sizes. But once again, play around with what you have and see what you like.

If you don’t have any googly eyes, you can also use circles of white paper. Or use your paint pens again to create the monster’s eyes instead.

4. Let it dry.
