More Materials to Consider

While I only used a few small items for this invitation to play, you can use whatever you have on hand. Things like pom poms, uncooked spaghetti, fake teeth or even Halloween play dough mats are a wonderful idea.

How to Make Playdough Monsters

Step 1. Take the different colors of play dough and roll them into a ball of dough.

You can buy or make playdough, whichever you prefer. I like making my own homemade playdough because it’s softer and lasts for longer than store bought. This is one of my favorite playdough recipes because it’s so easy to make.

2. Squish the playdough flat until it’s the shape you want.

The great thing about playdough play, is how much it helps to develop the small muscles in little hands. All that rolling, pinching and pulling is wonderful for building strength in children’s hands and fingers.

3. Decorate the play dough any way you like to make your own monsters.

This activity is a great way to let the kids’ imaginations run wild. Use a variety of small pieces to create silly monsters or spooky monsters. My kids loved the wiggly eyes to make crazy monsters with lots of eyes. Or using the pipe cleaners to make play dough monsters with a lot of arms and legs.
