How to Make a Popsicle Stick Jack-o-Lantern Craft

1. Line up 12 popsicle sticks, into a square shape.
If you don’t want a square jack-o-lantern, and would prefer a rectangular one, then use fewer popsicle sticks for this step of the project.
2. Glue two popsicle sticks along the top and bottom of the other sticks.
I use hot glue to attach all of the craft sticks together. The glue dries really quickly and the popsicle sticks can be painted almost straight away.
However, an adult will need to do this step, as young children can not safely handle a hot glue gun on their own.

3. Paint the square with orange paint.
Flip your square over, so that the flat side is facing upwards before painting.
4. Let the paint dry

5. Make the face.
I used my black paint pen to make the jack-o-lantern face. I love using acrylic paint pens instead of sharpies for drawing over paint.
I’m not sure why, but drawing on dried paint ruins my sharpies very quickly. However this doesn’t happen with paint pens because they are acrylic based and not ink based.

6. Draw a pumpkin stem onto some green paper.
You don’t have to give your jack-o-lantern a stem at all, if you prefer, or you don’t have any green paper. Then feel free to skip the following steps completely.
7. Cut it out.

8. Glue the stem to the top of the jack-o-lantern.
