Materials Needed

  2. Scissors
  3. Glue
  4. Googly eyes
  5. Black marker

How to make a Handprint Alien Craft

1. Place your child’s hand onto a sheet of green paper and trace around it.

Although I used green paper, you can use whatever color you like. Your child will have so much fun choosing their own color and making a totally unique alien craft.

2. Cut out the handprint outline.

This step is a bit tricky for young children. Toddlers and preschoolers may need an adult to help them with this step.

Alternatively, you can make a handprint using paint instead. Simply cover your child’s hand in whichever color paint you like, then press their hand down onto a sheet of white paper. This eliminates the need for cutting, but does require you to wash up all the paint afterwards.

3. Draw on a mouth.

I used a regular black marker to draw a small smile on my alien. Let your kids draw whatever kind of face they like.

Aliens are also a fun way to go if you want to explore an outer space theme in your preschool classroom. Don’t forget to check out some of these other 18 Space Activities for Kids for some inspiration.

4. Glue on some eyes.

I used wiggle eyes for my alien. A large one in the middle as well as a small one on the tip of each finger.

If you are doing this activity with a large class, using that many wiggle eyes may not be desirable. But don’t worry, your class can always draw the eyes with a marker instead. That way their aliens can have as many eyes as they want.
