  2. Printer and paper
  3. Laminating machine
  4. Scissors
  5. Blue paper (optional)
  6. Glue (optional)

How to Make a Summer Memory Game

1. Download and print the memory match game.

To grab your copy of these memory cards, just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button. It’ll open up the pdf file in a new tab for you to download and print.

2. Glue the blue paper to the back of the cards.

This step is optional, but very helpful if you are using regular printer paper. The reason why I like to glue a background of a different color onto my cards, is because you can see through regular printer paper. Which means your kids won’t be guessing which pictures match, because they’ll be able to see, even when the cards are facing upside down.

By pasting a different background onto your cards, you are making sure that your kids can’t see through them to the picture beneath.

If you are using a thicker construction paper that doesn’t show the pictures when you turn them over, then you can skip this step.

3. Laminate each of the sheets.

Use a laminating machine to make each of your cards more sturdy. Having your card laminated means that they will last for longer, and you’ll be able to play this fun game even with younger children who are more likely to destroy their toys.

4. Cut out each of the cards.

Use a pair of scissors to cut out each of the individual cards. Now you’re all ready to play this fun matching game.

How to Play

The aim of this game is to match as many pairs of cards as you can. You’ll need to use your memory to find the most pairs and win.

1. Shuffle and lay out the cards, face down.

I’ve laid mine down in a simple grid pattern, but you don’t have to. When I play with my 4 year old, she just puts them down wherever she likes. Having the cards move around all the time a is great way to challenge yourself if you’re really good at memory games.

2. Pick two cards and flip them over.

The first time you play, start with two random cards and see what they are, making sure that everyone playing can see. As you move forward in the game you’ll try to remember which picture each card has so that you can match them more easily.

3. If they don’t match, flip them back and try again.

If the cards do not match, you’ll flip them back and move onto the next person’s turn. However, if you are playing by yourself, then you just try again.

4. If they do match, remove the cards and keep playing.

When you get pairs of cards that have the same picture on them, you remove them from the game and move onto the next person’s turn.

5. Repeat until all of the cards have been paired up.

The game ends when all of the cards have been matched. The person who has the most pairs of cards is the winner.
