Summer Sunset Art for Kids – Instructions
Step 1: Draw a circle on the contact paper.

I used a large bowl to trace around, but you don’t have to. This Art idea will still look lovely as a regular square or rectangle.
2. Draw some details

Use a permanent marker to draw some palm trees, boats, or whatever else you would like onto the contact paper.
3. Cut the tissue paper into small strips.

If your children want to practice their scissor skills, they can also cut the tissue paper onto squares if they prefer.
4. Stick the contact paper down onto the table.
Make sure that the sticky side of the contact paper is facing upwards.
This step is optional. If you are doing this activity with toddlers or preschoolers, sticking the contact down to the table makes it much easier. Otherwise the contact paper will stick to their fingers and hands, making it difficult to enjoy making their picture.
5. Place the tissue paper onto the contact paper.

Alternate the strips of colored paper to make your Sunset.
I initially included the blue tissue paper for the ocean part of the picture. However, my kids included it into their sky, and I love the effect it creates.
6. Hang it in the window.

Use sticky tape to hang your pictures in the window and let the sun shine through.
If you are planning to turn this picture into a suncatcher, then I highly recommend using tissue paper. Because it still lets the sun shine through the different colors even when they overlap.
If you use regular craft paper, you’ll find that the overlapping sections have a very dark color and ruin the effect.
