1. Download and print the printable worksheet.

You’ll need to print one copy of the pdf files for each student. Alternatively, you can place the pages into a dry erase pocket. That way you can set up just a few copies in your math centers and the kids can do this activity again and again.

2. Count how many red hearts there are.

This step is a great way to get kids to practice one-to-one correspondence. Which is one of the essential math skills young learners need to master.

3. Write the number below the sum in the space provided.

This is the perfect way to practice number formation.

4. Count how many pink hearts there are.

Just like in step 2, you’re going to count how many pink valentine heart pictures there are in the sum.

5. Write the number below the sum in the space provided.

Once again, write the answer underneath.

6. Add the two numbers together and write the answer in the space provided.

​You can choose to either count all of the hearts together, or just add the numerals at the bottom. Which method you choose will depend on the skill level your students have.

Write the correct answer in the space provided.

7. Repeat with all of the sums.

There are a total of 12 sums for your kids to solve. This is a fun way for your kids to get in some math practice this Valentine’s Day.
