Materials Needed

  1. Valentines pom poms
  2. A heart silicone mold
  3. A small container
  4. Tongs, tweezers, or other fine motor tools.

How to make a Valentines Pom Pom Transfer Activity

Step 1. Pour the pom poms into a small container.

A bowl is perfect. The container just needs to have a large enough opening so that a pair of tongs or tweezers can fit through.

2. Set up your tongs, tweezers and silicone molds with your tray of pom poms.

If you can’t find heart silicone mold, don’t fret about it too much. Red or pink ice cube trays also work perfectly for this play idea.

Different ways to Play

Idea 1. As a simple transferring activity.

Use the tongs to pick up the pom poms and move them to the heart sections of the silicone mold.

You can also just use your hands or tweezers. Whatever your young children feel like doing is fine because all of the different options help to develop fine motor skills.

Idea 2. Sort By Size or Color

Group the different pom poms according to their color. Or arrange them by size, from smallest to largest.

This is a wonderful way to incorporate some simple math into this activity. Teaching the children to count, classify and understand positional language.
