10 Rainbow Pasta Activities for Kids
Learn how to make your own rainbow pasta because there are so many fun and educational ways you can use them. Here are some of my favorite rainbow pasta activities that I tried with my kids when they were toddlers and preschoolers.
To make your own rainbow pasta, use my rainbow rice recipe. You’ll need to switch out the rice for pasta, but it works exactly the same.

Adult supervision is required for all activities at all times. Some of the links provided in this blog are affiliate links. I will be paid a commission if you use this link to make a purchase.
1. Rainbow Pasta Sensory Tub

Place all your rainbow pasta into a tub to create your own colorful sensory bin. Even though the recipe is taste-safe, please supervise your children at all times. The pasta is uncooked and poses a choking hazard.
2. Threading

All you need for this activity is a shoelace and rainbow pasta.
Threading is a fantastic way to get your kids to practice fine motor skills like hand-eye coordination, pincer grip and more.
3. Odd One Out Game

To play the odd one out game you’ll need to:
- Line up one color of pasta in a row.
- Replace one piece of pasta with a different color.
- Ask your child to name which one is the odd one out.
4. Art

Use paper, glue and pasta to make any number of art projects. This is a fun way to get creative with non-traditional art materials.
5. Playdough

Combine rainbow pasta and playdough in all sorts of ways. You can make playdough sculptures, or explore the different patterns the pasta makes when pressed into the paydough.
6. Color Sort

Sort the different colors of pasta into their respective color groups. This easy math game is a fantastic activity for young kinds.
7. Memory Game

To use the rainbow pasta to play memory game, you’ll need to:
- Line up the pasta in a specific order.
- Ask your child to memorize the color order before closing their eyes.
- While their eyes are closed, remove a single piece of pasta.
- Ask them to open their eyes and tell you which color you removed.
- Repeat
What I love most about this game is that you can make it as easy or difficult as you like. Young children, such as toddlers can start out with just two colors. While older children can line up as many colors as they want.
8. Sensory Bottle

Place some pasta into an old bottle. When your child shakes it, it’ll make a sound for them to enjoy.
The pasta does break easily if you shake the bottle hard enough. If you’re worried about your child spilling or eating any of these small pieces, glue the lid onto the bottle before playing.
9. Color Mixing Math
This color mixing math printable is a mess-free way to explore color mixing with your kids. Get the free printable and use your rainbow pasta to learn about the primary and secondary colors.
10. Building Towers

Practice building towers by placing one piece of pasta onto another. See how high your towers can go before they come crashing down.
This is a wonderful opportunity to practice counting and fine motor control.
