How to set up a Christmas Scissor Skills Activity

1. Download the Free Christmas Scissor Skills Printable.
The printable includes pictures of a reindeer, snowman, christmas tree and a star. Each picture consists of an outline and dotted lines in various patterns for the children to cut along.

2. Print your pictures.
Each page has 4 copies of each picture on it. I did this for convenience, so that if you are preparing this activity for a class there is less preparation involved for the teacher.
It also means that you can print each of the pictures on a different color of paper. I used white, green, red and yellow. But of course, this isn’t necessary. You can also just print off all of the pictures with white paper and then let the children color in their pictures before cutting them out.

3. Cut them out.
The extent to which you cut out the pictures depends on the age group you teach and how you want to present the activity.
Preschoolers can cut out the shapes first, and then cut along the dotted lines. Toddler however, may need you to cut out the shapes first and then try the dotted lines themselves.
Another thing to remember with toddlers, is that they may not follow the lines at all. Mine didn’t care and just did her own thing. In which case there’s no point going through all that effort. The toddlers will still get all the benefit of practicing their scissor skills and can appreciate the pictures and increase their vocabulary along the way.
4. Enjoy playing.
