Threading Snowflakes – Easy Winter Fine Motor Activity
Threading snowflakes is a fun and easy Winter fine motor activity for kids. Toddlers and preschoolers will develop fine motor skills and create a beautiful snowflake with this wonderful play idea.
It only takes 5 minutes to set up and uses things you can easily find at the dollar store.

Adult supervision is required for all activities at all times. Some of the links provided in this blog are affiliate links. I will be paid a commission if you use this link to make a purchase.

Materials Needed
- Blue and white pipe cleaners (2 per snowflake)
- Blue and white beads
- Scissors
How to Make up a Threading Snowflakes Activity
1. Cut the pipe cleaners in half
I cut the pipe cleaners in half so that they would be easier for the kids to hold.

2. Take 2 halves and cross them in an x shape.
Wind them around each other so they don’t come apart.

3. Repeat with another 2 halves of pipe cleaner. So that they make a snowflake with 8 sections.
Although I didn’t try this method, you could also try bunching all 4 pipe cleaners halves together and twisting them in the middle. Then spread out each of the 8 arms to make the snowflake. This method would most likely be faster and easier if you are preparing this activity for a whole class.

4. Grab some blue and white beads and thread them onto each of the snowflake sections.
If you are doing this activity with older children, who need an extra challenge, try getting them to arrange the beads in patterns. (white, blue, white, blue, etc.)
