Materials Needed

  1. The Winter cutting strips digital download
  2. A printer and paper
  3. Scissors
  4. Laminating sheets or dry erase pockets (optional)

Preparation

1. Download and print the Winter cutting strips PDF.

There are two different types of cutting strips included in this free printable. Choose whichever one suits the age and capabilities of the young children you teach.

All you need to do is cut each page into its four individual strips, and give your children some scissors. Enjoy playing.

One type of strip has the traditional pathways. Different patterns that the children should try to follow with their scissors. This is perfect for preschoolers or kindergarteners who have some experience using scissors.

The other is simply a strip of simple pictures. These are perfect for younger kids, like toddlers who are only capable of making very small straight lines because they are new to scissor skills.

Different Ways to Play with the Winter Cutting Strips

1. Cutting

Use these as traditional cutting strips to help kids develop their scissor skills.

You can also save the individual picture cards in the second type of strip, to use during crafts or any other number of activities.

2. Fine Motor Mats

Laminate the strips, or place them in a dry erase pocket to use them as fine motor mats instead.

With fine motor mats you can trace the pathways with playdough or other manipulatives. As you can see in the picture, I’ve lined up buttons and pom poms along the pathways.
