As the weather warms up, now is the perfect time to try some of these Spring activities for kids. Materials Needed
- Plastic frogs
- Blue glass gems
- Regular pebbles
- A plastic tub
- A small log (optional)
- Sensory bin tools (eg, cups, bowls, spoons)
How to make a Frog Pond Sensory Bin
1. Place the blue glass and regular brown pebbles in the bottom of the plastic tub.
I used glass pebbles because that’s what I had on hand. However another wonderful sensory tub filler to use would be blue water beads. Blue and green water beads would be a fantastic way to create this little pond.
Now of course, this sensory bin is filled with a variety of small items. Each of which poses a choking hazard. Be certain to supervise small children at all times.
2. Decorate the pond with toy frogs and lily pads.
To make the lily pads, I just used some plastic lettuce out of our toy food collection. Again, I chose these because that’s what I had on hand.
If you want to make your own, then get a green foam sheet, and make simple foam lily pads out of that.
Different Ways to Play with this Frog Theme Sensory Activity
1. 10 Speckled Frogs Counting Game
Are you familiar with the 10 Speckled frogs song? Line up 10 frogs on the log and count them as they jump into the pond one at a time.
Using jumping frogs like this is a fun way to practice math skills with young children.
2. Balancing the beads
How many beads can you balance to build a small tower? This is one of the best ways to encourage kids to strengthen their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills while they play.

3. Scoop and pour
Scoop the pebbles and pour them into different containers. Listen to the sound it makes while you pour.
4. Explore the life cycle of a frog
Finally this is a great way to add in a bit of science. How do real frogs grow and change as they go through their life cycles?
5. Pond Life Small World Play
Finally, this sensory bin doubles as a wonderful small world. Set up this small world idea on your sensory table and enjoy watching the kids play.
