How to make Candy Cane Art

Step 1. Download and print the free digital download.

Free printables for kids are one of my favorite ways to keep the younger kids entertained. Grab your copy of the free candy cane template below.

2. Paint the candy cane.

I kept it simple and used red paint to decorate the candy cane strips. However, you can use the template however you like.

I also love the idea of getting a whole range of small red items and gluing them to the template to make a candy cane collage.

3. Cut it out

Young kids may struggle with cutting out their candy cane. If you’re doing this activity with very small children, there are easier ways to make some Christmas art. You may prefer to just paint the background of the printable instead of cutting it out.

4. Glue it onto a background.

I let my kids choose whichever color craft paper that they wanted for the background of this picture.

While I kept it simple, and just used what I had on hand. I also love the idea of getting some Christmas themes scrapbooking paper and using that as a background instead.

Alternatively, you don’t need to paste the candy canes down at all. Instead, you can hang them up on your classroom wall just the way they are.
