How to Make the Free Christmas Scavenger Hunt

1. Download and print the Christmas scavenger hunt game.

The free printable is found below. Just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button to get your copy.

You’ll receive two pages in the pdf file. One is the checklist and the other is a set of Christmas scavenger hunt clues.

You will need to print off one checklist for each child or group in your class, and one set of clues for the entire treasure hunt.

2. Cut the clue cards into their individual pieces.

You can also laminate the checklists and clue cards if you prefer. This will make them more sturdy and reusable. Which means that you can save this activity and do it next Christmas too.

How to Play with the Christmas Scavenger Hunt

There are two different ways to play with this holiday scavenger hunt. Which way you choose will depend on how old your kids are and whether or not you are doing this activity with kids at home, or with an entire class.

Option 1. Hide the flash cards around the classroom or playground.

Give each child a checklist, to mark off each item as they find the hidden flashcard. You can also organize the children into small groups to find the list of items. This is the perfect way to get kids to work together as team members.

This method is the best way for entire classes or younger kids where it is difficult to explore the neighborhood. With the clue cards you can easily host an indoor hunt, which is perfect for a holiday party or just as a fun activity on Christmas Day.

Option 2. Use the checklist to mark items off as you walk around the neighborhood.

For this version you won’t need any clue cards at all. Simply mark off each item you see.

This option is best for families, and is a great way to get older kids into the Christmas spirit over the winter break. This is becoming one of my kids favorite Christmas traditions. They love it when the entire family heads out to different locations to see how many Christmas items we can find.
