  1. 10 White paper cups
  2. Black and orange permanent marker
  3. A piece of construction paper

If you prefer to see the tutorial instead of reading them, you can also watch the step by step instructions on our YouTube video.

When drawing the faces of your snowmen, make sure that the cup is upside down. While this isn’t essential (so don’t worry if you forget), it does make it easier to stack the cups when you’re ready to play the game.

1. Draw a carrot nose.

Use the orange marker to draw a small triangle in the middle of your paper cup. The triangle can point to either side or even to the top of the cup. I tried all three directions because I wanted to see how it would look with my snowman’s funny faces.

2. Draw the eyes and mouth

Use the black marker to draw two large circles above the carrot nose, and a mouth below it.

For this particular snowman, I stuck with a classic snowman smile. However, for the other cups, I tried making a few funny faces because I wanted to make it a little more silly for my kids. However, if you’re not comfortable with drawing, then stick to the simple smile. You’re kids will still love it no matter what.

3. Make the snowball

Take a regular sheet of paper and scrunch it into a ball.

I found that a paper ball was enough for this game. However, using a tennis ball or something similar is a great option too.

1. Stack the cups into a pyramid

Arrange the cups into a triangle shape, going upwards, like a Christmas tree.

You can also arrange the cups into a classic bowling shape, with the cups arranged in a triangle all on the floor, not balancing on top of each other. However I found that a paper snowball wasn’t strong enough to move this formation. If you’re going to try it this way, then I recommend getting a heavier ball to do your bowling with.

2. Throw the snowball

Pick a certain distance at which to stand or sit, then throw your snowball at the cups. Younger kids will need to stand closer, and older kids further. I like how it’s so easy to make this game more challenging for kids of all ages, just by changing the starting distance from which you throw.

3. Calculate points.

Of course you don’t have to calculate points, after all some kids don’t want to compete and just want to have fun.

You can either score by counting how many cups fell down, or by counting how many throws it took for you to topple the snowmen. Either way, you’ll have lots of fun.

At the end of the game just stack each cup on top of the others and stick your paper snowball in the middle. Now it’ll fit very nicely on your toy shelf with the rest of your fun activity ideas.
