How to Make Fake Snow

Step 1. Mix the flour and oil together until the texture of the snow is a smooth consistency.

If the pretend snow is too dry then add a bit more oil, but if it’s too sticky you can also add a bit more flour. Initially the snow form these clumps which you have to work through and break apart with your fingers. Luckily I had the kids to help me do that.

My kids helped me do all the mixing and loved being a part of setting up the activity as well as playing with it.

2. Tip the snow into a large tub and decorate with small toys from the dollar store.

Is fake snow easy to clean up?

Yes and no. Instant snow is a great way to enjoy some messy play. Which is why I recommend playing with your DIY snow on your sensory table outside, or on a tiled area where it’s easy to sweep up.

If you do decide to play with it outside, be aware that you will not be able to clean it up with the garden hose easily, just like all oil based sensory bin fillers. If you do, it will cake onto your pavers. Instead, sweeping is the best way to go.

How long does homemade fake snow last?

This fake snow recipe will keep for a week or two if you store it in an airtight container.
