How to make a Fuzzy Paper Plate Polar Bear Craft

1. Cover your paper plate with cotton balls.

Unroll and glue your cotton balls all over the paper plate. This will make your little polar bear soft and fuzzy, adding a wonderful sensory component to this easy craft.

If you don’t want to use cotton wool, you can also try using white tissue paper or puffy paint instead.

2. Draw a nose, eyes and ears onto some construction paper.

Draw one medium and four small circles on a sheet of white paper.

The medium circle will be the polar bear’s nose and mouth. Use a black marker to draw a triangular shaped black nose and a small mouth. Or if you prefer, you can also use a black pom poms and make a pom-pom nose for your polar bear instead.

Two of the small circles will be the eyes. Once again you can use a permanent marker to draw the eyes, or you can use large googly eyes instead. Simply glue the googly eyes onto your polar bear’s face using hot glue.

The final two small circles will be the polar bear’s ears. Use a pink marker or crayon to draw small oval shapes in the middle of the white circle, to create the inner ear.

3. Cut out the facial features.

Use a pair of scissors to cut out each of your five circles. Cutting is a wonderful way for young children to develop fine motor skills. Since the shapes are very basic, even toddlers and preschoolers should be able to do this step by themselves.

4. Glue the nose, eyes and ears into place.

Glue the nose to the center bottom of the paper plate. Then glue the eyes above the nose.

Finally, glue the ears to the back of the paper plate, with just enough of the pink section showing out the top.

5. Wait for the glue to dry.

Now you can enjoy your simple polar bear craft by hanging it up on your classroom wall or sending it home to parents.
