How to Make a Handprint Sun Craft
1. Download and print the free printable sunshine craft template.

You’ll find the digital files at the bottom of the post. Simply click the blue button to get your free copy.
You’ll get both a full page and half page template. The full page is perfect to use as a cute craft that you can hang on the wall. The half page is designed to be folded in half and used as a card for a special occasion, like Mother’s day or Father’s day.
I used light blue paper as the background for this fun handprint craft. However, you can always use regular white paper and paint light blue clouds instead. Having a white background will also help the yellow craft paint to really pop out at you and have a wonderful effect.
2. Paint white clouds in the background.

I used a large circle sponge stamper to make the clouds. However this is also the perfect time to let the kids finger paint their clouds. They’ll have so much fun getting messy and it has the added benefit of working their fine motor muscles in a new way.
3. Cover your child’s hand in yellow paint.

If you don’t want to use paint, you can always use yellow construction paper instead. Simple trace around your child’s hand to make a hand print outline on the yellow paper. Then all you need to do is cut it out and glue it onto your background.
This is the perfect way to help younger children to work on their scissor skills, and give them some more fine motor practice while they play.
4. Press the hand down firmly onto the paper.

Make sure that the fingers are facing towards the bottom of the page. These will be the sun’s rays shining through the clouds.
5. Let the paint dry.

If you don’t want to use paint, you can always trace around your childs hand onto a sheet of yellow paper instead. Then you cut out the paper and glue it onto your printable.
6. Use a black marker to draw a happy face onto your smiling sun.

I used my black paint pen to draw the smiley face. I prefer to use an acrylic paint pen when drawing on paint, because I find that drawing on paint with regular black markers shortens the marker’s lifespan.
The colors are also more vibrant when using paint pens instead of markers, and gives the best results.
