  2. Pink, purple and gold acrylic paint
  3. Salad spinner
  4. Scissors
  5. Pen

How to Make Spin Art Hearts

1. Place your paper plate into the bottom of the salad spinner basket.

If your paper plate is too big for the salad spinner, then use a pair of scissors to cut it down to size. Or you can use a piece of cardstock, cut into a circle, if you don’t have any paper plates on hand.

2. Place your paint in the middle of the plate.

I used regular acrylic paint for this project. However, I think that washable paint would work even better. I find that washable paint is more fluid than regular paint, which means it would move around even better.

3. Close the lid and spin it around a few times.

The centrifugal force will make the paint spread from the middle of the paper plate to the outside. You won’t know how it will turn out until the spinner stops and you open the lid to see. If the paint doesn’t spread the way you want, you can always add more paint to the plate and spin it again.

You don’t need a fancy spin art machine to make this easy heart spin painting. As you can see a regular salad spinner works perfectly for this fun project. Just ensure that you keep it with your art supplies instead of in the kitchen so you don’t use it for your food.

4. Take your paper plate out and let it dry.

My kids had so much fun making these paper hearts, that we did it again and again. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon and make some family memories.

5. Cut the plate into a heart shape.

Using scissors is a great way to help younger kids develop fine motor skills. If you are doing this craft with very young kids, like toddlers, you may need to draw the heart shape onto the finished product for them to follow. However, older kids will be able to do this step by themselves.

Now that you’ve made your cute heart, you can either hang it up on the classroom wall or turn it into a homemade valentines. There are so many creative ideas that you can do with your spin art heart paintings.
