Materials Needed
- Free Santa Template
- Brown Crayon
- Printer and white paper
- Red, white and blue tissue or crepe paper
- Glue
How to make a Tissue Paper Santa Craft
1. Download and print the free santa claus craft template.
To grab your copy, just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button. The template comes in both color and black and white versions, so that you can use the same template for a number of different activities. For this art activity, I used the black and white template.
2. Color in your Santa’s face.
I used a crayon for this step, it was the easiest option and with this collection of Colors of the World markers, your students will have lots of fun knowing that they can give Santa any skin tone they like.
3. Cut your blue, white and red tissue paper into long strips or small squares.
I personally like to use long strips of tissue paper. It’s a lot easier to cut, scrunch and place the tissue paper where you want it to go on the picture. I find that a lot of small square of tissue paper are too fiddly and my kids lose interest in the craft activity long before they’re anywhere close to finishing it.
However, if you want your young kids to work on their fine motor skills, then getting them to do all that cutting and scrunching is a great activity to make their hands and fingers stronger. Having to make and glue all of those balls of tissue paper is a great finger workout for toddlers and preschoolers.
4. Spread glue over Santa’s hat.
5. Scrunch some red tissue paper together, and press it to the wet glue.
6. Repeat until the entirety of santa’s hat is covered in red tissue paper.
7. Repeat steps 4 – 6 with the white and blue tissue paper.
There are also a variety of different ways to turn this into several fun craft ideas. You may want to add on some optional embellishments, such as:
- Use cotton balls or white pom poms for the beard and hat.
- Use large googly eyes for the face.
- Use strips of red felt for the hat.
- use wrapping paper to decorate the background.
