Materials Needed

  1. Pink yarn
  2. Scissors
  3. Craft flowers
  4. Paper hearts
  5. A large tub or bowl
  6. Sensory bin tools (cups, spoons, tongs ect)

How to Make a Valentines Yarn Sensory Bin

1. Cut the yarn into smaller strands.

The easiest way to do this is to cut the ball of yarn down the middle while it is still rolled up. Then break apart and spread the pieces.

2. Place the yarn into a large tub.

3. Place the hearts and flowers on top of the yarn.

You can also hide items underneath the yarn and turn this sensory activity into a small scavenger hunt.

4. Collect your sensory bin tools and enjoy playing.

Different Ways to Play

1. Scooping and Pouring

Develop fine motor skills by using the different tools in your sensory bin. Some of my favorite sensory tools include:

  1. Tongs
  2. Spoons
  3. Tweezers
  4. Cups

These simple tools will help move the sensory materials from one container to another and help little hands get stronger.

2. Making Shapes and Pictures

Use the yarn to make outlines of shapes or pictures. Here we used a few pieces to make a simple heart. But you can also use it to make a face with some craft flower eyes and paper heart ears.

3. Sorting and Classifying

Sort the sensory items by size (big to small), color (blue or white) or object (e.g. heart and flowers)
