Materials Needed

  2. Scissors
  3. Sticky tape or glue

How to Make the Winter Movement Dice

1. Download and print the pdf file.

You can find the link to the free printable below. Just head to the bottom of the post and click the large blue button to get your copy.

2. Cut out the dice.

Use a pair of scissors to cut along the lines of the dice. Make sure that you leave the tags intact because you will need these in the next step.

3. Fold and glue.

Fold along the lines and glue the six sides together.

I personally like to put something inside my dice before I close it up completely. A large foam block, bean bags or even a ball of paper is perfect for this. It gives the block a little bit of extra stability when it’s being tossed around the room.

How to Play

1. Roll the dice.

Roll the dice and wait until it comes to a complete stop.

2. Read the prompt.

Each side has a different picture and a written prompt. Read the prompt that is on the side of the cube dice that is facing upwards. For example, “Slide like an ice skater”.

3. Mimic the action

Encourage your kids to then act out the prompt for 30 seconds or until they get bored and want to roll again.

If you are doing this fun dice game with kids who can’t read, like toddlers or preschool kids. Then you can either read out the prompt for them or better yet, see what they think that the picture on the dice would do. By not giving them a set action, you’re letting them use their imagination and come up with their own fun way to move.
