  1. The free reindeer printable
  2. String
  3. Brown paint

1. Print off the free reindeer printable found below.

The printable includes both a color and black and white version of the reindeer. So you can choose if you want to paint the whole reindeer with your class while making the string pulled antlers.

2. Fold the printable in half. Lengthways.

3. Place a line of brown paint on a paper plate. Dip the string into the paint and rotate it so that the entire string is covered in brown paint.

4. Arrange the string from one side of the reindeer’s head, leading to the edge of the page. Making sure that some of the string is hanging out from the page.

Only do one side of the reindeer’s head, because the painting will turn out symmetrical.

5. Fold the page in half and place one hand over the string. With the other hand, pull the edge of the string out from the middle of the page.

6. Open up the page to reveal the final picture.

Repeat steps 3 – 5 as many times as you like. You can either use one piece of string and do it multiple times, or use multiple pieces of string and go through the process only once. It depends on what is easier for you and your class.

I love the concept of this reindeer, however the head of the reindeer will inevitably get messy. So if you want this craft to be perfect (or at least give you the best chance), then I recommend doing this activity with multiple strings and pulling them out only once.
