How to Make a Muddy Farm Animals Sensory Bin

1. Make your mud farm

Fill your first bin with mud. I used my taste-safe mud recipe for this sensory table idea, but of course, you can always use real mud for your muddy play if that isn’t something that worries you with your own kids.

Next, add in your toy animals and give them a little bit of a stir to turn them into muddy animals.

2. Make the washing station

Fill your other plastic bin with a bit of soap, warm water and some sponges.

I chose not to add any soap to our water this time because I didn’t have any soap that was safe for the garden. However if you do have grey water safe soap then feel free to add in some bubbles.

3. Enjoy playing

There are no right or wrong ways to play when it comes to sensory play ideas. My son enjoyed actually washing the animals and engaging in a bit of imaginative play. Next time I’ll see if I can find toy tractors to add into the mix.

While my 2 year old just had fun squeezing the water out of the sponges over and over again. (Squeezing sponges is a great way for little hands to work on their fine motor skills).

Both of them had so much fun, it was a wonderful way to spend a sunny afternoon outside.
