- Acrylic paint
- Black sharpie marker (optional)
- Paint brushes
- Ribbon
- Black construction paper
- Sticky Tape
- Scissors
How to Make a Paper Plate Christmas Bauble Craft
1. Draw your design.
You can make any kind of design you like for this holiday craft. This is a great way to let kids be creative and come up with their own unique ideas.
For my paper plate baubles I decided to create ones with names on the front. I liked the idea of creating a personalized version of these christmas decorations and wanted to see how it would turn out.
2. Paint.
Use paint to decorate your paper plate crafts. I decided to keep it simple with just two colors, but of course younger children will want to do it their own way.
3. Let the paint dry before moving onto the next step.
Paper plates are perfect for this quick craft because they’re already a bauble shape. However, if you want your class to practice their scissor skills, then you can always cut a circle out of construction paper instead.
4. Glue a small rectangle of black paper to the top of your bauble.
Use a pair of scissors to cut a piece of black paper into a small rectangle. Then use glue sticks or a stapler to the top of your paper baubles.
Another idea that I love is to use glitter craft paper for the top of the bauble. If you have any on hand and like the idea, give it a try and see how it looks.
5. Turn the plate over, and use sticky tape to attach a ribbon.
Fold a small piece of ribbon in half and stick it to the back of the paper plate, placing it near the top so that the loop looks like it comes out of the black rectangle.
If you don’t have any ribbon handy, you can always use pipe cleaner instead. Simply fold it in half (leaving a loop at the top) and attach it just like the ribbon.
There are so many different ways to decorate your paper plate baubles for the festive season.
For the second paper plate pictured, I used pom poms dipped in white paint to make the dots. This is a fun way for little hands to develop fine motor skills while they get to make easy Christmas crafts.
However, you can also try:
- Decorating your paper plate with Christmas themed stickers.
- Making patterns with cotton balls.
- Glue colorful strips of paper to the plate instead of paint.
- Use Christmas cookie cutters as stamps.
