How to Make a Popsicle Stick Gingerbread Man Craft

1. Cut two of the jumbo popsicle sticks in half.

The first thing to do is to use scissors to cut two of your popsicle sticks in half. These smaller pieces will be the limbs of your gingerbread men, while the intact stick will be the head and body.

After a bit of experimenting, I found that I needed to cut my limbs in a wedge shape at the top. That way the limbs could sit at an angle, but still have enough room to have glue applied to the overlapping parts.

2. Glue the half sticks to the intact stick.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the sticks together. I always prefer to use hot glue whenever I make popsicle stick ornaments because it’s strong and it dries very quickly.

If you have older kids, they can do this step with supervision. However, if you’re doing this craft with younger children, they’ll need an adult to complete this step for them.

3. Paint them brown.

I used brown acrylic paint for this step. However, you can use whatever kind of paint you have on hand. Tempera and watercolors also work well with popsicle stick crafts.

4. Draw a face and details in white.

I used a white marker pen to draw the features on my cute gingerbread man craft. As well as a black marker to make the small dots in his eyes. (Although you can also use googly eyes on your gingerbread man’s face instead.)

5. Glue on some buttons.

You can use whatever color buttons you like. This is a great way to let your kids be creative and choose what they want.

If you don’t have any buttons on hand, you can use almost any items that is a small circle, such as:

  1. Pom poms
  2. Colored construction paper cut to size.
  3. Dot markers
