  1. White paper
  2. Colored markers
  3. Brown paper
  4. Glue
  5. Scissors

1. Make the Roof

Start by cutting and pasting a strip of brown paper along the bottom of your page.

I made my paper roughly 1 inch thick. That way there was enough brown paper to see that it was supposed to be a roof, without taking up so much room that the handprint couldn’t fit in the paper.

2. Make the Chimney

Cut another strip of brown paper and glue it to the left hand side of your page.

I made sure that this piece of paper didn’t go all the way to the top of the page, because I wanted it to look like the top of a chimney.

3. Draw the Details

Use a brown marker to draw brick or roof tile patterns onto your strips of brown paper. This is optional, but a fun way to decorate the art project.

4. Trace around your hand.

Use a pencil to trace around the outline of your hand. Where you place your hand is important.

You’ll need to rest your bottom two fingers along the side of the chimney (as shown in circle 1).

Spread your thumb out as wide as it can go (as shown in circle 3).

Try and get your index finger to point straight upwards to the top of the page (as shown in circle 2)

When you have your pencil outline, you can draw the features in a permanent marker.

5. Draw the Boots

Use a black marker to make the tips of your bottom two fingers black.

I also used a pencil to outline a fluffy lining, to separate the tops of the boots and the bottom of the red pants.

6. Draw the first hand and rope

The middle finger will be Santa’s first hand, which is holding a rope attached to the chimney.

To draw the glove, use a pencil to draw the fluffy liner between the end of the white glove and the start of the red sleeve. You’ll also need to make an additional curved line about ⅔ of the way from the top of the tip of the finger, to the edge of the fluffy liner.

To draw the rope, use a brown marker to draw a line from the top of the curved line to the edge of the chimney.

Next, draw a wavy line from the bottom of the curved line on the glove, to the top of the chimney. This is the remainder of the rope that he is climbing.

7. Draw Santa’s Face

First start by drawing Santa’s hat.

Use a pencil to make a fluffy lining on the tip of the finger, as well as a small circle just to the side of the finger. Then use a marker to draw the red part of Santa’s hat.

Secondly, use a pencil to draw Santa’s beard. This can be as large or as small as you like. Just make certain that you leave enough space between the bottom of the hat and the top of the beard so that you can draw a couple of eyes.

Lastly, use a marker to draw two eyes, a nose and a mouth.

8. Draw the second hand and sack

The thumbs will become the hand that is holding a sack full of presents.

Make the glove, with the fluffy lining and the curved line, the same way as you did with the previous hand.

To draw the sack, start at the top of his hand. Make a small circle, with two small lines connecting the edges of the circle to the top of Santa’s hand.

The bottom of the sack will be a large water drop shape that once again starts where the curved line of the glove is.

9. Draw the belt

To draw the belt, first use a pencil as a guide. Draw a line. Starting from between the ring and middle finger, all the way to the bottom right hand corner of your palm.

Use a yellow marker along the middle of this line to make a square.

Finally, use a black marker to go over the pencil line, to complete the belt.

10. Color it all in

Now that you’ve drawn all the little details, all you have to do is color in your Santa’s Claus picture.

You can use paint, markers, or crayon. Wherever you prefer to use in your house or classroom.
