How to Make A Winter Bear Craft

1. Paint the sky

On the top half of your picture, you’re going to paint the sky. This can be a single color, or several colors blended into each other. I used pink and purple acrylic paints for my sky. But of course, there are so many different ways for you to make your own polar bear art.

2. Paint the mountains

I used two different shades of blue to make the mountains. I wanted them to be a little bit darker so that the white paper would stand out in step 7.

3. Paint the iceberg

I used light blue paint over the bottom section of my background. I wanted it to look like my little bear was sitting on an iceberg.

4. Draw a polar bear

I made a simple polar bear template that you can download and use for this art project. However I highly recommend encouraging your young children to draw their own polar bear from scratch.

Having them draw their own bear is a great way to take this fun craft and make it as unique as the children who created them.

5. Color in the fish

I took leftover paint from my mountains and used it to paint the fish in the polar bears claws. Once again, if you are drawing your own polar bear and you don’t want to include a fish, you don’t have to. Use your imagination and change this great winter craft into something new.

6. Cut out the bear

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the polar bear. This is a wonderful way to help younger and older kids to develop their fine motor skills.

7. Glue the bear to your background

Use a glue stick to paste the bear to the background. I had mine sit in the middle, but you can always do it your own way. Another idea that I love is to make a whole polar bear family and have them all on the iceberg together.

8. Paint some snow

Dip cotton buds, or small pom poms into white paint and use them to make small white dots all over your painting. This is a fun way to make falling snow in your picture.

9. Leave it to dry

Another way to make this fun winter activity different, is to make a different winter animal. You can use the same background and try painting an arctic fox, reindeer or even a wolf. This is perfect if you want to explore a variety of creatures within an arctic animal unit.
